Parisian Tapestries

Susanna Mälkki, conductor

Kari Kriikku, clarinet

Based on the six medieval tapestries in Paris, Kaija Saariaho’s Clarinet Concerto depicts each of the five senses and the enigmatic “sixth sense.” Finnish clarinetist Kari Kriikku debuts the U.S. premiere of this work that will display the unique flexibility of the New World Center’s performance hall. Conductor Susanna Mälkki also leads the Fellows in Hector Berlioz’ powerful and popular story of unrequited love, his Symphonie fantastique.
